Zupan’s Markets announces new 20,000 square foot store in Lake Oswego, Oregon
Hazel Dell, Washington – May 19, 2011 — Mike Zupan, CEO of Zupan’s Markets, announced today he will begin construction of a new store and be the anchor tenant in Lake Grove Village, formerly Lake Grove Shopping Center. The $3 million, 20,000 square foot Zupan’s Markets will open in late fall of 2011, and will employ 100 people. The project is a joint venture between Banette Properties, which has owned the property since 2000, and Beam Development. Works Partnership Architecture (W.PA) is the project architect, and Scott Edwards Architecture will design the interior of Zupan’s Market at Lake Grove Village.
The project, an adaptive reuse of the original 1963 strip center, will be Lake Oswego’s first green development and will be certified “Gold” under a pilot program administered by Earth Advantage and The Energy Trust of Oregon. In addition to Zupan’s Markets as the project’s anchor, the 45,000 square foot redevelopment will eventually be home for up to 7 smaller tenants located in two retail pavilions. RiteAid and Starbucks will be retained as existing tenants. On-site parking will increase to 179 dedicated stalls.
“We are thrilled to be opening a new store in Lake Grove, offering residents the products, service and quality we are known for,” remarked Mike Zupan. “We source constantly to bring our customers the freshest and absolute best in local, regional, national, and international products.”
Zupan’s Markets focus on quality, selling everything from the best meats and wines to the freshest produce, baked goods, gourmet deli products, flowers, and more, emphasizing locally-sourced, artisan products whenever possible. Food-loving customers, as well as local chefs, have been shopping at Zupan’s for over 35 years.
Zupan’s at Lake Grove Village will also feature a large full-service floral department that will include delivery services, year-round fresh-cut flowers, vases, flowering pots and containers, as well as floral services for special occasions and events. Unique to the Lake Grove Village store will be a dedicated area for greeting cards, culinary and gift items.
Owned and operated by Mike Zupan and his father, founder John Zupan, The Lake Grove Village store joins three Zupan’s Markets in the Portland Metropolitan area located on West Burnside, S.E. Belmont, and S.W. Macadam Avenue.
Banette Properties and Beam Development have partnered on the adaptive reuse of Lake Grove Village, the former Wizer’s shopping center in the Lake Grove district of Lake Oswego. The roughly 3 acre site, located at the intersection of Boones Ferry and Byrant Roads, is currently undergoing a $6 million renovation. Works Partnership Architecture is the lead architect and R&H Construction is the General Contractor.
“We’re extremely excited to bring Zupan’s Markets to Lake Oswego, and specifically Lake Grove. Zupan’s is a best-in-class operator and will provide a superior customer experience consistent with our broader vision for the Center,” said developer Eric Shoemaker.
